Permanent Residency (Green Cards)
A lawful permanent resident is a foreign national who has been granted the privilege of permanently living and working in the United States. An individual can become a permanent resident in the United States based on the categories listed below.  Please click on any of the following categories for more information.

Citizenship and Naturalization
It is a goal of many immigrants to become United States citizens.  A person can attain U.S. Citizenship by birth or by naturalization.  Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is conferred upon a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).  Most permanent residents (green card holders) enjoy the right to remain in the United States without restrictions and can work for any employer.  However, U.S. citizenship offers certain benefits that permanent residents to no receive.

Work Visas
Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay or an immigrant visa for permanent residence.  There are several nonimmigrant work visas for foreign nationals that wish to work in the United States.

Family Visas

Visitor Visas
Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. The visitor visa is a nonimmigrant visa for persons desiring to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1) or for pleasure or medical treatment (B-2). Persons planning to travel to the U.S. for a different purpose, such as students, temporary workers, crewmen, journalists, etc, must apply for a different visa in the appropriate category. Travelers from certain eligible countries may also be able to visit the U.S. without a visa, through the Visa Waiver Program. Read more about how to participate in the Visa Waiver Program on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website.
